Fin vs History
Shed of Interest
We at Cub are huge fans of Fin vs History — the comedy podcast hosted by Fin Taylor and Horatio Gould, in which the pair attempt to tackle the biggest events in human history.
In this piece, Fin draws a mildly questionable comparison between owning a garden shed office and the film adaptation of Martin Amis’ novel The Zone of Interest.
Normally this is where a passion project ends. But with the ever-present spectre of AI looming over the animation industry, we decided to push things a little further.
An AI claymation experiment
We exported simplified animation passes and used them as reference frames for AI style transfer, generating clay-textured replacements that followed the original motion. These frames were then composited back onto the original animation timing.
We hope you enjoy the final piece - a layer of faux clay wrapped around a fully hand-animated core.
